Europe Direct from Coimbra Region, in partnership with the CircLocal project, will launch the Webinar “European Circular Economy Plan: a cleaner and more competitive Europe”, on April 16, at 2.30 pm, on the webex online platform.
This session will discuss over the European Circular Economy Plan, moreover presenting examples of good practice in the area of the circular economy.
To attend the webinar there will be:
- Paulo Lemos from the Directorate-General for the Environment of the European Commission;
- Érica Castanheira, councillor for the environment of the Arganil City Council; and
- Paulo Simões, First Executive Secretary of the CIM do Oeste.
The European Commission has adopted a new Action Plan for the Circular Economy – one of the main foundations of the European Green Deal, Europe’s new roadmap for sustainable growth. Implementing new measures over the product’s life cycle, the new action plan aims to set our economy for a greener future and able to strengthen our competitiveness, safeguarding the environment, and the consumers’ rights.
The Path for Europe?
Above all, the Circular Economy is, in its essence, a new way to think about life. It is a “distress call” of the planet that finally starts to be heard, in a serious, sustained and conscious way. Definition and concepts: “A system that is restorative or regenerative by intention and design, the circular concept promotes wealth and job creation against the scarcity of resources and price volatility, helping to create new business opportunities and more efficient ways to produce and consume.
Population growth has concentrated in large cities and put a pressure never seen before in the administration of urban infrastructures and its consumption of resources. Today we dispose at a frantically rhythm of phones, cars, homes, clothing and this way of living is not sustainable in the long term.
